Nurses around the world: health volunteering
The volunteer experience does not only occur within the social area or in work with animals . Health volunteering and the desire to help have taken doctors and nurses around the world, working in hospitals and community clinics that care for low-income patients.
In health projects, volunteers may work in NGOs that have a medical office or directly in hospitals or clinics in the country of their choice.
What are the health projects available?
Volunteers will be able to choose between five projects distributed across 3 continents: two three projects in Spanish and two NGO projects in English.
Guatemala Coast
In the health project in Guatemala Costa, the volunteer will work in rural health centers that do not have the staff or infrastructure to provide service to the most disadvantaged communities. Health services in Guatemala are deficient and there is a lack of qualified professionals.
Ecuador
Ecuador’s health project is the most popular among dentists and dental students, although doctors from other specialties, midwives and nurses from around the world are always welcome. The volunteers will collaborate either in the health center or in the dental clinic.
Nepal
In Nepal, the health system is poor and the number of patients far exceeds the number of doctors. The health project in Nepal seeks to expand the country’s health system, especially in rural areas. Volunteers work according to their area of expertise. The volunteer works in a hospital, where health professionals from any area are welcome.
Zimbabwe
In Zimbabwe, volunteers will have the opportunity to work within a hospital where professionals from all specialties are welcome. The advantage of the project in Gambia is that, if the volunteer commits to a stay of more than 6 months, the hospital offers accommodation at no cost. The hospital will assign the activities to be carried out according to the volunteer’s experience and area of specialization.
Kenya Coast
The health project in Kenya Costa offers doctors and nurses around the world the opportunity to work in a rehabilitation clinic for children with disabilities. Doctors specializing in physical therapy and occupational therapy, and nurses are welcome.
For health projects, it is an essential requirement to be qualified doctors or nurses, paramedics, midwives, dentists, physiotherapists, graduates or students, and if you decide to work on a project in Africa or Asia, you will volunteer in English, so an advanced intermediate level is required for practical purposes.
